Artist Statement
I explore the connection between the mind and body through biomorphic abstraction. This body of work showcases the intricacies that shape the human experience; giving a physical form to the mental space and showing a more emotive side with the physical form. The paintings are an amalgamation of different contributors, systemically as well as socially. As the social and political landscape continues to change and affect many people, topics of identity and their intersectionality have become a primary focus.
Each painting begins with a complex emotion and loose gestures. This initial framework is built on through several sessions as I alternate between thin glazes and thick textural marks. The intuitive approach allows for the forms to have a hand in creating themselves, fully fleshing out the feeling of the paintings. Each painting explores a chaotic space in which a form attempts to find an understanding for itself to stabilize in. The dialogue between the painting and myself as the artist is on full display to the viewer. Moments of impatience, confidence, hyper fixation, and passion in each brushstroke lead the viewer into thoughts in building the figure and a glimpse into my own contemplations through symbolism.
It's what's on the inside that matters; guts, butts, and persistent patterns of thought.
